2. MātāPONO/PRINCIPLES

The Trust is committed, in attaining its purposes, to:

2.1 Respecting and implementing the dual heritage of the partners of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi);

2.2 Respecting the cultural diversity of people and encouraging people from all cultures, backgrounds, and nationalities to utilize the Trust’s facilities and services;

2.3 Inspiring people to reach their full potential in areas of material, economic, physical and spiritual wellbeing and to apply “the betterment of the world can be accomplished by pure and goodly deeds, commendable and seemly conduct”;

2.4 Working cooperatively with others in the area of youth development programmes and actions as youth are the backbone of the society and the future of the humanity;

2.5 Promoting arts, crafts, trades, professions, employment and service to humanity as means of self- sustainability and creating financial independence within the community;

2.6 Maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in all aspects of life;

2.7 Working towards moral, ethical and spiritual empowerment of youth, through the delivery of National and Worldwide programmes, for the greatest outcomes to all the community.

3. WHāINGA/ PURPOSES

The purpose of the Trust is to educate and empower all people in the community, in all aspects of health and wellbeing. In particular; youth, seniors, unemployed and people experiencing hardship.

The activities of the Trust may include the following and or incorporate more activities in the interest of betterment of this world both physically, emotionally, economically and spiritually.

3.1 Operate a community kitchen in Reefton and periodically a mobile kitchen in other centres in the West Coast and or New Zealand wise with the intention of educating people to eat in a healthy manner and also provide affordable meals;

3.2 Provide a space and means for effective running of Reefton food bank in the interest of helping low income families and seniors;

3.3 Establish a Reefton community curtain bank and periodically carrying out a mobile community curtain bank in other centres of the West Coast to enable low income families to have curtains to help keep their homes warm;

3.4 Establish a community ‘creativity cave/hub’, with adequate tools and materials to help people to create art, craft, train in a trade or a profession and provide services that would be used as means to improve their social, economic and mental wellbeing;

3.5 Establish and manage a community drop in centre in Reefton for youth, adults and senior citizens to have a place to socialise in a safe and appropriate atmosphere. This space would also allow for caregivers to have a place to wait until it is time to collect their children from school and also provide a safe place for children to wait after school until their caregivers are able to collect them.

3.6 Have accommodation that is affordable for the homeless people for temporary periods not exceeding three months provided such tenants will respect the rules of accommodation as set out by the Trust in relation to prohibition of drugs, alcohol or other mind altering substances as well as not attracting violence through their behaviour or by associating with or belonging to groups such as gangs etc;

3.7 Empowerment of Future Generations:

A) Host camps and youth training at a subsidised cost in order to help children and youth be educated in arts, crafts, trades, professions, community services, and empowering morally, ethically and advance spiritual understanding (Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Programme under the auspices of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of New Zealand /Te Tari Baha’i o Aoteraroa).

3.8 Establish community information and support services for seniors, unemployed, disadvantaged, disabled and marginalised people so they can be referred to suitable government or other agencies so they can receive appropriate directions and assistance to overcome their challenges and difficulties;

3.9 To acquire and hire facilities in order to carry out the purposes of the Trust and rent out such facilities under the rules set out by the Trust /Board as required to help finance the Trusts activities.

3.10 Provide other support and assistance to the community that is consistent with this charities purpose.

3.11 Carry out any other activities and actions that the Board of Trustees decide is suitable considering the objectives of the Trust.
